It smelled like ammonia, old stuff and trash. The air was thick and hard to breathe, you were almost able to taste the awful smell in the air. It smarted the eyes and made me feel dizzy. Gosh, who the heck put me to go to this place anyway. To meet that crazy woman with a tons of cats that hissed to me every time I stepped in. It was just this corridor that smelled awful, though, the old woman's house itself smelled like roses and sweet things. The corridor must be only to keep people away, and I don't see any reason for people randomly step here. It was a perfect way to keep salesmen away..
The corridor was very small, and if you had claustrophobia, you would probably get an heart attack or something similar. It was also so dark, that I couldn't see the floor or where I was going. And I wasn't even sure if I wanted to see what was below me anyway.. It would be probably the reason of the smell.. Dead people or, a pile of poop and piss all over the place. Who knew, but I would totally clean up my clothes with disinfection liquids after this.
I finally made it, to the end of that damned corridor. Before me was a red, old door that I knocked three times. Three, no more or less. Soon the door opened and I was able to get in. My hands closed the door right behind me as I started to cough and some of spit was coming out my mouth. It felt like my lungs were going to give in after that walk, glad that I didn't have to do it everyday.. How the heck that woman managed to even live here? Did she have a collection of gas masks or-
There was a collection of different gas masks hanging around the room...
Well damn, just as I thought about it.
I started to move my feet and moved away from the entrance to the living room where I sat down on a red velvet. The room's decoration was very elegant, yet a bit dark and creepy since there was few bird cages hanging from the ceiling that hold black, red eyed crows and few little birds. There was big windows on one wall and thick looking, dark blue curtains. Some of the blue hued light was coming in to the dark room, where the only light source was candles on black candlesticks around the room, which made it look like they were floating. There was also old looking fireplace and the walls were covered with dark, purple colored wallpaper that hold few family portrait looking paintings on them.
The cat's sound made me startle a bit. A huge, black cat jumped on the table in front of me and meowed again. It was sitting next to the candles and I secretly wished that it would catch on fire.. Since this cat hated me, and I hated it. It was scratching me every time I tried to pet it or take it to my lap. Now it was hissing to me.. What a weird cat.
"So, you came to visit me again," an old woman asked as she put a tray on the table, shooing the cat away. There was tea cups and pot, probably china, and a plate willed with pieces of strawberry cake. Remember when I told that her house itself smelled like sweets and roses? Well, it surely did now. The woman had white, long hair and glasses on her nose. Her eyes were deep blue and she was wearing purple sweater with black stripes on it. She really knew how to bake.. But there was only one small problem with her.
The woman sat down on the other side of the table and smiled friendly.
"Go ahead, sweetie. Eat something. You look like an skeleton if you don't eat," she told. There was some cat sounds under the table as they were playing with my shoe's laces. They always did that. I hesitated for a moment before taking one slice of the cake and starting to eat it. It tasted good.. Almost melting in my mouth.
"Woah.. You really overdid yourself today. These taste delicious!" I told her and she just smiled.
"Is these strawberry cakes? What did you use this time on these? Last time you used my mother's recipe but these sure taste different."
"Oh... You know.. There was this weird man at my door today, I have no idea how he got there but when I let him in, he actually tried to rob me. Me and my cats surely didn't accept such a thing, and guess what we did?"
"Well what?" I asked as I was eating the second slice of the cake. It felt a bit creepy, since I was pretty sure where this conversation was going.
"I killed him... And baked a cake out of his corpse," she said, still smiling friendly.
I stopped eating and looked at the cake slice I was holding.
The batter was pale red colored, and the mass was more like in chocolate cakes. Thick, and moist. There was even some small red pieces on it...
It was true. The cake was made out of human corpse.
How did I know? Well, the strawberry that was on the middle of the cake, seemed odd. Seriously, the room was pretty dark so I wasn't able to even realize what it was first. It was some piece of flesh and had an eyeball inside of it.
For a moment, I just sat there, staring at the cake piece in my hands.
And finally, I opened my mouth to speak.
"Ah... Fuck it."
and with that, I stuffed the rest of the cake slice in my mouth.
It was delicious, like always.
